The Birth of Ritualize: From a Need to a Mission

In 2020, I discovered a gap in the personal care & cosmetics market for my students & clients — there were no products that were physically nurturing and energetically empowering to help them on their manifesting journey. Ritualize was born to fill this void: to offer products that elevate your physical and energetic wellbeing.

One of the things that I teach my students is how to identify the energy that they are doing normal day-to-day things with, (like brushing their hair, their teeth, taking care of their skin, putting on makeup, eating, etc.), and how to do those things consciously with energies that they actually want to come into alignment with so that they can have more experiences that make them feel the way they want to feel, which means that they are actually manifesting their desires and living in their personal flavor of freedom, whatever that is to them.

As they shared their daily routines with me and the products that they were using, It was obvious that most of them were using products that were comprised almost entirely of ingredients that were not only harmful to their health, but also harmul to them energetically and at best, neutralizing a whole helluva a lot of the energetic work that they were doing.

Sodium hydroxide plays a crucial role as a pH adjuster in personal care and cosmetic products. It's pH level is significantly higher than the neutral point of 7. It is actually used to enhance product safety.

Personal care and cosmetics with overly acidic compositions can be extremely harsh on the skin. Think alpha hydroxy acid products. If they are not properly pH-balanced, they can be harmful, potentially causing chemical burns. Sodium hydroxide modifies the pH, achieving a balance between effectiveness and gentleness.

Did you know - In the actual products that we apply to our skin, sodium hydroxide isn't present in its original form. When you put it in something that is acidic for pH adjustment, it separates into sodium ions and hydroxide ions. Sodium is commonly known as table salt. The hydroxide ions are what actually do the pH adjustment — they turn hydrogen ions into water which raises the product's pH.

So the end result is a small amount of salt, some extra water, and a perfectly optimized pH. This is why it is a safe and extremely beneficial ingredient in personal care and cosmetics.

It is also needed to help oils and fats emulsify, which makes lather and foam in soaps. Without it, soap would be an not very useful mishmash of various oils and fats instead of a cohesive product.
